Currently Watching: Las Chicas del Cable (aka Cable Girls)

Set in Madrid in the 1920s through the Spanish Civil War, “Las Chicas del Cable” (aka “Cable Girls”) is a Spanish period drama on Netflix. The show centers around a group of women who become close friends and confidants when they all meet while working at Spain’s first national telephone company (hence the title of the series). It’s basically the TV equivalent of a juicy beach read: the show is one part historical fiction and one part Spanish soap opera. If you're a fan of gorgeous costumes, perfectly applied lipstick, handsome Spanish men, and plot lines that involve lost love, deceit, betrayal, secret twin brothers, evil mother-in-laws, and the power of female friendships, then this is the show for you. Starring our girl crush Blanca Suarez, the second half of the show's fifth and final season was released in early July, so it's the perfect time to dive in and binge-watch the series. If we can't travel to Spain this summer, at least we can pretend from the comfort of our couch. Pop some popcorn and a bottle of cava, and tune in!
