Le Picnic: What to Pack For a Summer Picnic
Our favorite way to spend a lazy summer weekend? On a patch of grass in our favorite park (or our own backyard) with a pile of books and magazines, a bottle of rosé, and a basket full of fresh market fare. For the perfect French-inspired picnic spread, pack the following items:
Fresh baguette—no need to slice it, just break it off in chunks with your hands.
A variety of French cheeses—we like a mix of soft and hard cheeses, such as Brie, Roquefort, and Camembert.
Juicy berries like strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, or ripe peaches.
Salty olives—our favorite variety are Castelvetrano olives, which are bright green and buttery.
An easy salad like fresh mixed greens or arugula with a drizzle of olive oil and champagne vinegar or this traditional haricot vert salad with heirloom tomatoes.
Something sweet like dark chocolate with almonds or petite French pastries.
Pack it all up in a big picnic basket, like this classic wicker basket (complete with mini salt and pepper shakers, a wine key, and utensils and cutlery for two!):
